Summer is over and it is time to say "Welcome Home" to our Winter Residents. October in Florida offers cooler temps with sunny days and clear nights. The "rainy season" is mostly over and the great outdoors is there for you to enjoy. Fall is a great time for boating, swimming, biking, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, golfing and just enjoying being outside. You can turn your A/C off most nights and enjoy the fresh air while you sleep. Looking forward to enjoying the great Fall weather here at Aripeka West.
Columbus Day...
IN 1492
In fourteen hundred ninety-two
Columbus sailed the ocean blue.
He had three ships and left from Spain;
He sailed through sunshine, wind and rain.
He sailed by night; he sailed by day;
He used the stars to find his way.
A compass also helped him know
How to find the way to go.
Ninety sailors were on board;
Some men worked while others snored.
Then the workers went to sleep;
And others watched the ocean deep.
Day after day they looked for land;
They dreamed of trees and rocks and sand.
October 12 their dream came true,
You never saw a happier crew!
"Indians! Indians!" Columbus cried;
His heart was filled with joyful pride.
But "India" the land was not;
It was the Bahamas, and it was hot.
The Arakawa natives were very nice;
They gave the sailors food and spice.
Columbus sailed on to find some gold
To bring back home, as he'd been told.
He made the trip again and again,
Trading gold to bring to Spain.
The first American? No, not quite.
But Columbus was brave, and he was bright.

Dead Duck?...
A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As
she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his
stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest.

After a moment or two, the vet
shook his head and sadly said, "I'm sorry, your duck, Cuddles,

Fish Fry...
This month our "group outing" will be Friday October 17th to the Fish Fry at Spring Hill Eagles Club located on Bolton Road in Hudson. They serve a wonderful Fish Dinner for $7 which includes your choice of Grilled, Blackened or Fried Fish, a baked potato or fries, coleslaw and a hush puppy, plus all the condiments! For those who do not care for fish, they have chicken, scallops, shrimp and usually a steak dinner. Everything on the menu is pretty reasonably priced. We will plan to arrive at the Eagles club at 5PM. You do not have to be a member of the Eagles to join us for dinner, but if you are interested in joining the Eagles, please see Karl and he will get you started. There will be a band starting at 6PM, so stay with us and enjoy the music for a while after dinner.

Fun Fall Event...
Our Fall Maze is a life-sized living labyrinth. Over 5 acres of challenging fun for all ages. You enter at a starting point and navigate your way through the maze. Check points are set out along your journey to assist in a successful completion. Check points are areas in the maze containing questions or clues that will point you in the right direction. Don’t worry if you make a wrong turn, it’s all part of the fun. The length of time it will take to complete really depends on the individual (We won’t rush you, but we will make sure you are out by closing time). We also have staff roaming the maze assisting if needed. Our maze helpers are there to make sure that everyone is following the rules and staying on the paths. We want everyone to have a fun and safe experience. To insure your desired experience please keep this in mind when scheduling your visit. The condition of our maze is greatly affected by weather conditions and its visitor’s behavior. Our maze as most will also start out green at the beginning of our season and will transform to brown by the end of our season. This will make for two different experiences.

Ever wonder where the toilet brush has been...
Lauren was frustrated. She had complained dozens of times to her daughter about her newest gag of kissing the bathroom mirror immediately after applying lipstick, but it was all to no avail. Finally, one day after spending a half hour scrubbing the mirror, only to find another kiss mark an hour later, Lauren had enough. “Lizzy!” she hollered, “What?” came her daughter’s reply through her bedroom door. I can’t find the toilet brush that I’ve been using to clean the bathroom mirror. Do you have any idea where it is?” After hearing the gagging from behind the bedroom door, Lauren knew her days of cleaning kiss marks off of mirrors were over.
